Betty Boyd

Betty Lorene (Burke) Boyd, 84, of Virgie, Kentucky, died peacefully at Pikeville Nursing and Rehab on February 17, 2026. Betty was a loving mother and mamaw, an adoring wife and a devout Christian. She loved tending to her gardens and flowers and was never too shy to enlist help from family and friends, though she was quite independent most other times. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Berlin Boyd, grandson Justin Boyd, sisters Vesta Burke, Ruby Burke, Hattie (Burke) Baglyos, Dinah May (Burke) Bentley, Mina Sue Burke and Edith (Burke) Johnson. She is survived by her two sons, Paul (Doug) Boyd and Barry Boyd, her sisters Linda (Burke) Johnson, Dora (Burke) Rhodus, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Debbie Burke, Clifford and Denna Burke, Hillard Burke, and her 3 grandsons Tyler Boyd, Cody Boyd and Paul Robert Boyd. Betty was born to Mack and Lavonia Burke on August 1st, 1941 in Virgie and lived near the head of Marshalls Branch along with her sisters (Ruby, Vesta, Dinah May, Hattie, Mina Sue, Linda, Edith and Dora) and brothers (Carl, Clifford, Hillard) until moving to Dayton Ohio where she met Paul, her future husband and love of her life. Together they made a wonderful couple who raised two boys (my brother Barry and I) who seemed determined to find every single nerve that their parents clung to and then climbed on those nerves. They were the most wonderful parents that two ill-behaved boys could hope for. Memories include camping trips throughout the US, Little League, tending the garden, home-run derby behind the house, watching mom be a second mom to most of our friends, family reunions and, of course, mom’s soup beans and cornbread. As most already know, Betty loved to have a reason to dress up. We hope that nobody attending feels a burning desire to dress up for the day. We can best honor Betty simply by allowing her to be the best-dressed person of the day and remembering with fond memories of the life she lived. This will be a time of celebration, good friends, good fellowship, and an abundance of love. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 1:00PM at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home.
