Fay Adams Johnson

Fay Adams Johnson slipped from our presence into the arms of Jesus on January 8, 2013, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, KY. She was born January 1, 1919, at McRoberts, KY, the third of eleven children born to the late Milburn B. Adams and Belva Riddle Adams. Her stay on this earth was 94 years and 7 days. Fay was joined in matrimony to our loving father, the late Evert F. (Fred) Johnson, February 11, 1939. Together they shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 57 years until God called Dad home on July 16, 1996. To this union were born five children. One daughter, Belva Anita, died in infancy. Two grandsons, Laython Wade Newsom and Eric Christopher Johnson, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers Frank, Charlie, and Jimmie Adams, sisters Bobbie Tackett and Essie Johnson and two infant sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing daughters Nella Joy and Bob Newsom of Long Fork of Virgie, Joetta and Ronald Maynard of Hardy, KY, sons Everet F. Jr. (Frankie) and Judy Johnson, and William M. (Billy) and Betty Johnson both of Long Fork of Virgie, nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren. To join us in our sorrow, she also leaves three sisters: Fan Fleming of Long Fork of Virgie, Mavis Ostrowski of Hesperia, CA, and Edith Carpenter of Palm City, FL, and many other relatives and friends. The surviving grandchildren are Letha Hall, Zelda Hall, Joia Caron, Dejah Burton, Peggy Jo Evans, Mary Kaye Maynard, Ryan Johnson, Michelle Hall, and Erica Johnson. Our mother had been a member of the Long Fork Old Regular Baptist Church for almost 60 years. The writer of Proverbs described our mother when he wrote “…Her price is far above rubies” and “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Mom may be gone from our sight but she will live on in the lessons she taught us and that we are passing on to our children and grandchildren. We are thankful that God gave us such a wonderful, loving, precious mother. Visitation will be at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home, Virgie, KY, Friday, January 11, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. with services to follow at 7:00 p.m. The body will be moved to the Long Fork Old Regular Baptist Church after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, for the funeral. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben Johnson Cemetery on Left Fork of Long Fork. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
