Jimmy Elswick

Jimmy Edward Elswick, 80, of Rockhouse Road of Caney, passed away at his residence on March 31, 2026. He was born on July 31, 1945 to Lillian “Pie” Elswick McCoy. He was raised as a son by his maternal grandparents, Dave & Vesta “Mam” Elswick. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings: Leroy McCoy, Hubert Elswick, Davis Elswick, Edward Elswick, Willie “Buddy” Elswick, Thelma “Chab” Ralston, Judy Mercer, & Kelsie “Sissy” Roberts. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 53 years, Joyce, along with his children: Timothy Scott Elswick (Nellie), Lisa Bentley (Paul), Donna Tackett (Jimmy), Tanya Conley (Randy), & Leela Riddle (Darian); his 10 grandchildren: Matt Bentley, Todd Bentley, Madison Tackett, Bailey Beverly, Cody Riddle, Mason Riddle, Gunner Edmonds, Emmi Edmonds, Emily Conley, & Abby Conley; 5 great-grandchildren – Ryder, Shade, Leo, Baylor & Atlas; sister Brenda McCoy; & brothers, Daniel Elswick & Eddie McCoy. Our dad worked most of his life in the mines & on road construction, but his true passion was as an auto body mechanic. He was very skilled in the trade of painting cars & trained many of today’s best painters in the little garage at the foot of the hill. He was privileged to teach the trade to his late son in law Darian Riddle and no doubt passed on his love of cars to his two grandsons, Cody and Mason. When work was no more, dad took up hunting. Sometimes it was trips to Frankfort for hunting, but his favorite was trips with his grandson Gunner to the mountains of Roanoke, to hunt with his cousin Eddie. He loved making jerky from his hunts and all of his grandkids loved it as well. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Thursday at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home with Daryl Newsome, John Sexton, and the Pilgrim’s Prayer Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E Young Mausoleum. Visitation will begin on Wednesday after 6:00PM, with services beginning at 7:00PM. We, as a family, have lots of fond memories of a husband, a dad, a papaw, a brother, and even as a friend. Most of our community will remember him as “the candy man”. There was rarely a funeral that he didn’t attend and bring a batch of his famous peanut butter candy. Our loss is heaven’s gain, we are forever thankful for the fine team at Bluegrass Care Navigators in his last days. And will all miss you and love you. Written by his heart broken family.
